Verizon sweeps J.D. Power U.S. network quality study

Verizon has once again claimed the top spot in the J.D. Power U.S. Wireless Network Quality Performance Study. The survey was conducted from July through December 2014 and included responses from 27,065 wireless customers across the country.

Now in its 13th year, the semiannual study is based on 10 problem areas of the customer experience: dropped calls; calls not connected; audio issues; failed/late voicemails; lost calls; text transmission failures; late text message notifications; Web connection errors; slow downloads; and email connection errors. Network performance issues are measured as problems per 100 (PP100) network connections, with a lower score reflecting fewer problems and better network performance. Carrier performance is examined in six geographic regions: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, North Central, Southwest and West. In addition to evaluating the network quality experienced by customers with wireless phones, the study also measures the network performance of tablets and mobile broadband devices.JD Power

Based on these metrics, Verizon not only took the top spot nationwide, but managed to claim the best performance in each of the six geographic regions surveyed. Not surprisingly, AT&T was right behind them in each region, with 2-3 additional complaints per 100 connections. T-Mobile was then 2-3 additional complaints behind AT&T, and Sprint came in dead last in all but one region, with typically 2 more complaints than T-Mobile.

While these surveys can be helpful for those wanting a general idea of what they should expect from a carrier in their region, it can vary widely from user experiences in specific areas, so we always recommend checking with users in your area before making a decision based on this study.

Do these J.D. Power findings match up with your experiences or are one of the other three carriers the best where you live?
